2014 German Grand Prix in pictures

F1 returned to the Hockenheimring last weekend for the German Grand Prix. It was won by home favourite Nico Rosberg, with Valtteri Bottas holding off Lewis Hamilton to secure second.

I was at the race reporting on all of the action for Richland F1. The track may be very different to its predecessor, but it still produced a fantastic race and some stunning photographs. Here is the race weekend in pictures (including some of my own).

Thursday
Here is my second Formula 1 media pass, which will shortly be joined by a third.
The paddock at the Hockenheimring was a little cramped in comparison to the Red Bull Ring, and it was incredibly hot.
Here was my view in the media centre for the whole weekend, far from the top-notch facilities in Austria but still decent enough.
I also got my first look at the new Williams Martini motorhome on Thursday. It is certainly an impressive structure, and was thankfully very cool inside as well.

Friday
A bright and early start to Friday, before heading off to breakfast at Ferrari.

The big story of Friday was Susie Wolff's second FP1 run. After only four laps at Silverstone, her outing at the Hockenheimring was far more productive. She finished 15th, two tenths behind Felipe Massa, and completed 22 laps.

Rosberg topped the first practice session of the German Grand Prix weekend, from his team-mate and Fernando Alonso.

Hamilton then moved to the front in the second session, finding more speed on the super-soft tyre. Daniel Ricciardo was third quickest for Red Bull Racing.

Saturday
Another paddock shot, this time from Saturday morning prior to third practice.

Rosberg was fastest in third practice, ahead of the all-important qualifying session on Saturday afternoon.

Hamilton dramatically crashed out of Q1 after a right-front brake disc failure. He made it through to the next session but was unable to take part, and a gearbox penalty dropped him to 20th.

Esteban Gutierrez managed to make it to Q2 for Sauber but a penalty from Silverstone dropped him down to 16th.

Rosberg stormed to pole position for his home event, helped by his team-mate's crash.

The two Williams drivers completed the top three on the grid, with Valtteri Bottas beating Felipe Massa to the final spot on the front row.

Sunday
Some bloke in a Mercedes cap walked past me on Sunday morning before the race...
Torrential rain fell prior to the GP2 race on Sunday morning, but the main event took place in dry conditions.

Here is a picture of the paddock about an hour before the start of the race.
1997 F1 world champion Jacques Villeneuve was busy working for Sky Italy prior to the race, alongside 2012 GP2 champion Davide Valsecchi.
Patrick Dempsey, who raced in the Porsche Supercup support event on the weekend, met Monisha Kaltenborn from Sauber before the race start.

Hamilton completed several brave overtakes, with this one including contact with Kimi Raikkonen.
