A mix of race and reserve drivers took to the track on Tuesday and Wednesday, with teams testing development parts and gathering data for the last time before the winter break.

In-season tests in Bahrain, Spain and Britain took place earlier in the year, with teams each having to allocate one day to working with Pirelli. However, the Italian firm supplied all teams with prototype tyres in preparation for 2015 at the post-season event in Abu Dhabi.

Conditions remained warm and dry throughout the test, with Valtteri Bottas topping the timesheets on the opening day of running. The Finn was fastest in the morning session, before lowering his benchmark to a 1:43.396 in the afternoon.

Bottas spent most of the day completing aero and 2015 tyre tests, and managed a total of 80 laps. Williams reserve and 2015 Sauber driver Felipe Nasr was at the wheel of the FW36 on Wednesday, finishing eighth fastest with a total of 83 laps.

Kimi Raikkonen was second quickest on day one of the Abu Dhabi test, finishing half a second behind Bottas and managing the same number of laps as the Williams driver, as his 2015 team-mate Sebastian Vettel watched on from the Ferrari garage.

He handed the F14 T over to GP2 driver Raffaele Marciello for Wednesday's session. The Ferrari Driver Academy member finished second fastest after a late improvement, completing 90 laps of the Yas Marina Circuit on his F1 debut.

Just two days after losing out on the 2014 drivers' title to his team-mate Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg was back in action for Mercedes. He finished third Tuesday and managed 114 laps - the highest tally of the two-day event.

The team's reserve driver Pascal Wehrlein took over from the championship runner-up for the final two sessions. He was fastest in the morning, before improving his time to end the day at the top of the timesheets after completing 96 laps.

Jolyon Palmer got his first taste of F1 machinery on day one of the test, driving for Force India. A power-unit problem cost him track time, meaning he only managed 37 laps. However, he did finish the fourth. Spike Goddard took over the VJM07 on Wednesday, setting the sixth best time after 96 laps. The European F3 driver also tested Anthony Hamilton's 'Info Wing' LED display.

As a prize for winning the 2014 Formula Renault 3.5 title, Carlos Sainz Jr was given an outing in the Red Bull RB10. He finished fifth on Tuesday and lapped the Yas Marina Circuit 98 times, before handing driving duties over to Daniel Ricciardo. The Australian was seventh quickest and managed 88 laps, before a problem cut short his day.

Will Stevens made his F1 debut for Caterham last weekend and was back behind the wheel of the CT05 on Tuesday and Wednesday. The British racer finished sixth on day one and completed 101 laps. A few small issues cost him time on track on the second day, but he still managed 76 laps and was fifth fastest.

Lotus reserve driver Charles Pic completed day one of the test for the Enstone-based outfit, finishing seventh on the timesheets after 87 laps. After his first practice run last Friday, European F3 champion Esteban Ocon returned to the cockpit of the Lotus E22 for the day two morning session. He managed 34 laps before handing the car over to GP3 title winner Alex Lynn, who circulated the track 52 times. They finished ninth and 10th respectively.

Marcus Ericsson completed both test days for Sauber, after terminating his Caterham contract. He finished eighth on Tuesday and managed 95 laps, before completing 112 tours of the Yas Marina Circuit and setting the fourth fastest time on Wednesday.

Max Verstappen was Toro Rosso's sole driver for the two-day event. He crashed in the morning session on Tuesday after a suspension issue, but returned for the afternoon to increase his lap tally to 55 and finish ninth fastest. The second day was more productive and, despite a power-unit problem, he completed 78 laps and put in the third best time.

McLaren's Honda-powered interim MP4-29H suffered a difficult debut. An electrical issue meant test and development driver Stoffel Vandoorne was forced to sit out of the morning session. He managed three installation laps in the afternoon, before a fuel data-logging problem cut short his day.

A tricky-to-find electrical problem delayed McLaren and Vandoorne's running on the final day of the test. The MP4-29H did take to the track in the final 90 minutes, but only for two laps before the car shut down. Despite a tough start, but it is better for the team to start discovering and ironing out issues now, rather than during 2015 winter testing.
